WinAVI Video Converter v8.0

I have a 720p record file, 1280 720, but after I covnret it using this program, it turns smaller than before. How come it becomes that way? Does that mean my record file got cropped? Does it retain the HD quality of my record file, as well as its real resolution? I reckon it becomes Full D1 after it covnrets.
